Incorruptible Play Review - Free Essay Example
Incorruptible The play, Incorruptible, is full of deceit, irony and just a little bit of morally wrong acts committed by Christian monks. The first act begins with Charles the head monk of the church is praying to the relics of the Saint Stella. A peasant woman is trying to sneak in a few prayers without paying the church a penny to pray. Martin, another monk of the church, and Charles are arguing because their church is not getting very many donations and not making very much money. Saint Stellaââ¬â¢s relics that these Brothers honor as their church patron have seemed to stop performing miracles. They all hope that Brother Felix, yet another monk in the church will bring the Pope to their church to see their Saint and honor it, hoping that it will help Saint Stella to perform miracles. Unfortunately, Brother Felix is unable to bring the Pope to their church. The Pope had already gone off to a different city because it was rumored that a monk with one eye sold the real relics o f Saint Stella to the church of the city of Barbados. This insinuating that the ones the Brothers have is not the real Saint Stella, but a fake. The peasant woman comes back and wants her donation of one button back. The rumor has spread threw the city that the Saint Stella bones all the followers of that church have given pennies and prayers to is a fake. The monks hear the story from the peasant woman and strike up a deal to get the ââ¬Å"one eyed monkâ⬠who delivered the ââ¬Å"realâ⬠relics to the church in Barbados, to come to their church and want to know why he stole their relics. This one eyed monk who sold the relics happens to be the peasant womanââ¬â¢s son-in-law, who is a sort of jester type character. He tries to get away but then the monks accuse him of taking their relics, they steal his 30 gold pieces and force him to tell him what it was that he did. Jack, the jesterââ¬â¢s name, tells the monks how he dug up a body from a grave and gave the bo nes to Abess, the head nun of the church in Barbados, who also happens to be Charlesââ¬â¢ sister. With this being reveled that the bones jack sold where fake Martin, comes up with the idea of digging up all the graves in their church graveyard and sell the body parts as real Saints. This eventually gets out of control. Martin manipulates Charles into doing most of these terrible things and forces Jack to become a monk and dig up bodies. While Jack is playing the role of monk he sneaks his girlfriend Marie into the church for some, frolicking, as it was put. Little do they all know that Marie is the long lost love of Felix, the reason he became a monk for this church was because of Saint Stella. Through out the play Felix and Marie miss each other just by moments. By the end of the play Martin has gotten caught up in making so much money that he has gotten cocky. Wanting for the Pope to visit so badly he writes to the Pope telling him that they have an Incorruptible, which i s a body that does not decompose the same as others because they are so holy. The Pope says he will come but the problem is that these Brothers do not have an Incorruptible. For awhile Jack did not want to get caught sneaking Marie in so he hides her in a sack. Martin mistakes Marie as the ââ¬Å"Incorruptibleâ⬠he sent Jack to go find. In the end Marie goes off with Felix to do what they planned on doing before and the church still has Saint Stella who does perform another miracle of giving Jack back is one eye. This Play was one that seemed to be set back in the times, but had a modern twist to it. The theme of this play could be said to be a few different things. Personally, there seems to be a lean toward having faith. Through out the play they all through out quotes from the bible about having faith, and that without faith you wonââ¬â¢t get anything you want or need. Through out the play all of the monks at one point in time had lost some faith in their patron Saint. Only when all those who lost faith started to have real faith in Saint Stella is when it was seen that miracles were happening. Sometimes we need to go through some rough patches to get to what we really want in the end. The important thing to remember however is that youââ¬â¢ve got to have faith in what you believe in and not give that up. The theme of faith was not the only thing that was pretty consistent through out the play. Between act 1 and act 2 there was only one costume change and it was not very different from the first one. The peasant womanââ¬â¢s costume does not change from act to act, or if it did it was very subtle and I did not notice. Marieââ¬â¢s costume changed a little but it was still the same idea of a torn skirt, looking some what of a collected mess. The monks changed the colors of their gowns to show that they had money now. The blue outfits made the monks look more fun and showing that they were expensive. This tells the audience that since the last act theyââ¬â¢ve idea of pretty much hustling body parts has been working out pretty well for them. All these actors in this performance were both funny and did a fantastic job. My favorite I think would have to be Felix, played by Geoffrey Zokal. What was so funny about his character was his comments made under his breathe almost. Maybe it was were I had chosen to sit, but I sitting first row right in front of the skeleton head I heard almost all of the little comments made. When Martin said something that was just ridiculous or Charles was agreeing to some ridiculous plan he had a funny way of trying to stop it, but not trying to hard. He really showed how much he cared for the relics and that showed to me that he had an attachment to this saint for a reason. His character did have a reason to be attached to this Saint and Felix did well with praying to it, when Martin wanted to get rid of Saint Stella Felix wraps the bones and ââ¬Å"sleeps with Saint Stellaâ⬠. Geoffrey seemed very into the role as well. He looked like he was having fun with it and that in turn made it more enjoyable for myself. It was an enjoyable dark comedy for a non-theatre major, such as me. It had the ââ¬Å"darkâ⬠because these monks believed that these old bones of dead people, who quite possible might not even bee Saintââ¬â¢s can actually cure a woman with an oozing lump on her back. The whole play is comical but they are completely serious. What they are saying is funny to us, but the play is supposed to show a light side of the seriousness of the topic. For example, during the play when Felix is freaking out about Martin and Charles getting rid of Saint Stellaââ¬â¢s bones, he runs to the alter and takes the bones with him. That was very funny to me, but for the playa it was showing his devotion to his faith. That Felix was one who still had faith in his patron saint, and that she would help him get his ââ¬Å"loveâ⬠back. The title of the play means a body that does not decay like many others because of its holiness. It is a little ironic that Marie is the girl that Felix talked to jack about. Felix was under the impression that Marie was dead, drowned. She ironically goes through most of the play not even knowing that Felix is there and vice versa. She was to pretend to be the Incorruptible for a sort while and she technically was thought to be dead, two different times. Incorruptible is a funny dark comedy that I would recommend for others to go see. This was not a show that I had to try at all to stay away during. I had fun with the show, the cast was fun and the performance was done well.

Etiology of Borderline Personality Disorder Borderline personality disorder is defined as a mental illness that involves unstable moods, behavior and relationships. There are many other symptoms of borderline personality disorder, some of which include intense irritability, elevated levels of fear, and anger. The etiology of BPD is unknown, but through a number of different studies it is believed that it can be caused by genetics, environmental factors, and/or brain abnormalities. Scientists continue to study genes that help regulate both emotions as well as impulse control for possible links to BPD. It has not been proven that borderline personality disorder is caused by genetics because there in not a single specific gene that causes it. There are, however, numerous studies that suggest BPD is possibly inherited and that there may be a link between BPD and other mental illness experienced by family members. There is an increased risk factor for BPD if family members have BPD or related disorders such as ADHD, posttraumatic stress disorder, and bipolar disorder. There are also studies that indicate that impulsive aggression is inherited, but serotonin related genes only have an effect on an individualââ¬â¢s behavior. An increased risk factor in heritability for BPD can also be caused if impulsive aggression and affective impulsivity are phenotypes. A study was done to see if there is a correlation between borderline personality disorder and mood disorders. Results

Critical Response HESC
Question: Discuss about theCritical Responsefor HESC. Answer: Introduction The paper looked into whether fundamental HESC or exalted (T-HESC) cells tissues which tolerate vitro ZIKV tainting as well as duplication. Along these lines, our outcome prescribe a critical piece of the endometrium in spreading ZIKV contamination. Cell Reports generation highlights twofold piece of Gas6-AXL in the midst of ZIKA sullying: progressing viral area of glial cells in the making cerebrum and altering characteristic resistant responses to empower sickness (3). Aravive-S6 showed up of the vitro to quell ZIKA defilement of humanoid glial cells, accumulating more potential which has antiviral application in AXL impersonation's formerly declared unfriendly to danger properties. Recently dispersed in vitro investigate exposes that the limit of ZIKA disease the quantity of (ZIKV) to defile glial in the making psyche is intervened through the Gas6-AXL path, and the one which is Biologic's Aravive manufactured draw Aravive-S6 (suggested in the generation of MYD1) and is able to be a piece ZIKV sickness by blocking Gas6 to thwart AXL hailing. The disclosures propose a prospective antiviral part for Aravive-S6 despite its officially declared operations which are against cancer. The current revelations were circulated nowadays in the Reports of the cell by pros done by Inserm, at the same time their accomplices constituting Biologics of Aravive. The creation, known as "AXL arbitrates ZIKV area in glial cells of the human and manages inherent safe reactions," feedback where ZIKV entrance into cells necessitates the AXL ligand, Gas, that associates the pathological spots to glial cells, where the disease is then masked (6). In the midst of disease entrance of the tissue of the cell, the ZIKV/Gas6 complications starts AXL kinase operation, that hoses the inference reaction to the disease and supports tainting. The scientists too have documented that ZIKV sickness of hominoid glial cells is stifled by Aravive's constructed AXL impersonation reception, Aravive-S6 (M YD1). Background Zika Virus (ZIKV) rises up out of the Flaviviridae class transferred to individuals by snack of the Aedes mosquito type. The contamination has been disengaged first from the febrile monkey blood in the year 1948 in the timberland of republic of Uganda; regardless, its ability as a bacteria and virus for human being had a poor opinion of for appropriate for 60 years up to 2013. The year 2013 an unordinary scene of ZIKV-associated Guillain-Barr clutter ascended in French Polynesia3. An overall prosperity emergency was actuated toward the complete of two thousand and fifteen by the impression of an extended event that was connected to the transient and topographical scattering of ZIKV contagion in the Northern part of Brazil4. Extending verification now unmistakably reinforces a cause-affect association between natural ZIKV communication and extended repeat of smooth to outrageous neuropathologies constituting microcephaly. ZIKV was recognized in the fluid of amniotic of pregnant women7 proposing that the placenta may be tolerant to disease passageway (1). This disorder probably happens in the midst of the fundamental trimester of gestation of human being, but the cells of placenta seem, in every way, to be secured in contradiction of ZIKV malady by a constitutive interferon (IFN)- 1 response. Truth be told, three late audits exhibited that human basic placental macrophages, trophoblasts and fibroblasts of the maternal decidua basalis were tolerant to ZIKV advantageous sullying in vitro. Additional audits demonstrated that ZIKV can cross the placental limit either by methods for uterine vessels or by a climbing course starting late appeared in the model of a mouse of cervix ZIKV ailment (4). Vector-self-sufficient movement of ZIKV in individuals may occur without a doubt happening via the coitus. Man-to-woman passage has been represented in around scenario so far. ZIKV sexual transmission is similarly maintained by both the recognizable proof of higher viral load in semen of the male versus body fluid and by the assurance of ZIKV in semen fluid for some time in the wake of vanishing of indications. All the more starting late, now in the other way from woman-to-man sexual passage of ZIKV tainting was furthermore revealed. These interpretations gather a possibly detectable piece of the woman conceptive tract (FRT) as a medium of contamination illness and spread either from or to the man associate in the midst of sex or to the hatchling in the midst of gestation. Entirely sections in the FRT, constituting the endometrium, may add to setting up and diffusion of the fundamental sickness, in the midst of the basic viremic organize that is particularly postponed in the midst of pregnancy. Moreover, it should be pondered the way that the humanoid endometrium is an outstandingly novel tissue encountering main histological variations in the midst of the menses sequence under the arranged act of hormones responsible for sexual. The hormone Estrogen orders the proliferative time of the menses sequence, whereas the past-ovulatory climb of hormone ovarian progesterone initiatives the division of humanoid endometrial stromal cells neighboring winding courses (2). This techniqueis fundamental for unborn baby trophoblast assault and advancement of placement and happens uninhibitedly of an planting blastocyst. In this way, decidualized perivascular stromal cells could be a potential concentration of streaming ZIKV. Also, it is all around announced that the progesterone-subordinate secretory time of the menstrual cycle addresses a "window of shots" for a couple of viral pathogens, for instance, HIV and herpes contaminations. Critical Review Originality of the Report The originality of the paper is questionable because the paper has relied on the previous articles and research papers. For instance, to illustrate the spread of the Zika vurus, the paper has relied on a timeline through previous studies, using search terms in various databases. Thus, the approach used is vital because it contains information pertaining to public health events that are of potential concern. Results ZIKV, and debasement containing the tainting is related with a few neurological issue, constituting Guillain-Barr turmoil, and myelitis. Besides the disorder of expectant ladies by ZIKV has acknowledged unborn assortments from the standard, inherent microcephaly and hatchling departure (7). Really taking shape fetal identity, ZIKV aims at neural ancestor cells, changes division in the cell and prompts cell end, hindering passionate prosperity. Beginning at starting late, the portion in a way ZIKV enters aimed cells has been insufficiently gotten on. The present examination happens highlight the twofold bit of AXL amidst ZIKV spoiling of glial cells, advancing viral range and overseeing inborn invulnerable reactions contrary to the ailment. Exploration of Emergent pathogens in the Hospitals like in Saint Louis, Paris. "Thusly, controlling AXL point of confinement might address a possible focus for upcoming antiviral pharmaceuticals. The report has indicted that the farthest point of A ravive-S6 to square AXL motioning by getting and unequivocally limiting Gas6 has the ability for the cure of different malignancies, in isolation and also in synergistic mix with emission, at checkpoints (8). This recent finding proposes that Aravive-S6 might in like way can piece contamination by ZIKV and some associated defilements, for example, dengue tainting, that share techniques for cell range and ailment. We predict likewise investigating the antiviral nature of this group of particles (9). Discussion The operation was in like way financed by the ZIKAlliance expand, that has got supporting from the EU's Horizon 2020 (European Union) imaginative work platform in allow assention. Aravive-S6 is an article supportive certain which goes about as a fake to tie Gas-6 containing high partiality and keep its establishing of the AXL hailing path. Finding has exhibited AXL motioning to be one) "subsistence switch" which experts recognize pushes cancer growth change and metastasis, and imperviousness to other bosses working against cancer; and 2) an instrument by which surety tainting, constituting ZIKV, arrive glial cells and alter safe reactions to bolster viral ailment. Preclinical research have demonstrated antivirus and anticancer characteristics for Aravive-S6, melding pleasant energies together with an assortment of anticancer overseers: radiation treatment, immuno-oncology specialists, and arrangements that effect DNA duplication and reparation, constituting PARP inhibitors (9). Aravi ve Biologics is a subtly apprehended, late pre-clinical stage making article, fundamentally specific improvement meds that treat true malignancies while saving regular sound cells (10). The affiliation's lead program depends on the GAS6 path, where begin seems to acknowledge a central part in various sorts of disease distortions by impelling cancerous growth and cell persistence. Aravive has made solid preclinical information for its lead quiet adversary, Aravive-S6, in both outstanding myeloid leukemia (AML) and strong cancerous growth which sometimes may be constituting trunk diseases and pancreatic. This open clarification has progressive verbalizations. Progressive verbalizations enclosed in this official explanation join, without impediment, illuminations with regards to the furthest reaches of Aravive-S6 to square ZIKV disorder by getting Gas6 to presume AXL hailing, confinement of AXL breaking point tending to a possible focus for upcoming antiviral prescriptions, Aravive-S6 containing the possible for the cure of different improvements, both in isolation and blend in the synergistic with emission of heat and inhibitors checking point, the proposal, Aravive-S6 might in like way can piece contamination by ZIKV and a couple of pollutions, for example, dengue sickness, which share methods for cell portion and disease (10). These progressive illuminations are not insistences of upcoming execution and consolidate diverse obscure risks, questions, threats and variables that are past Aravive Biologics' regulator constituting the utmost of Aravive-S6 to piece ZIKV sullying and other associated defilements, and the farthest point of Aravive-S6 to treat disorder, the cutoff of Aravive-S6 to show security and sensibility, and what's more clinical outcomes that are strong with earlier in vitro happens, the capacity to pick patients and finish the clinical attempts on the required time and accomplish searched for outcomes and purposes of intrigue, the affiliation's capacity to acquire administrative backings for industrialization of thing hopefuls or to acclimate to progressing legitimate fundamentals, administrative necessities identifying with the affiliation's capacity to advance or propel its thing contender for particular signs, certification of its thing rivals in the business center and the suitable change, showing or offer of things, the affiliation's capacity to keep up its permit understandings, the proceeded with support and change of its patent home, its capacity to create and tend to joint attempts, its capacity to get or keep up the capital or respect s key to store its imaginative work exercises, and its capacity to hold its key researchers or association staff (11). All forward-looking declarations depend on upon Aravive Biologics' desires and presumptions as for the period of the official explanation. True outcomes may change physically from these progressive clarifications. In any case, as needed by law, Aravive unequivocally denies any form of commitment to empower any progressive elucidation which has thusly, paying little personality to whether fittingly of new data, future occasions or something else (12). Fundamental HESC were disengaged from biopsies of endometrial and agonized with the reference African or with modern INMI-1 persevere through assortment of ailment of 10 in the wake of accomplishing cell confluency (days 34). Viral advancement was immediately poor around a circumlocutory immunofluorescence analyze (IFA) using either antagonistic to ZIKV dsRNA or against ZIKV encloses (E) protein monoclonal antibodies (mAb). Under cellular allotments for E protein and viral RNA were viewed 72hours afterward tainting of HESC (Fig. 1a). This rate of cells which are corrupted with the MR766 straining, as recorded both by unfriendly to dsRNA and against E protein mAb recoloring, was Ca of about eighty percent however the amount of cells corrupted containing the INMI-1 straining found in a general sense lower (ca. 7%) (Fig. 1b). Notwithstanding the way that malady of fundamental HESC was set up from 8 free supporters, as tissue openness was obliged, only cells from three suppliers could be corrupted one by the other with both viral strains. Conclusion Taking all things into account, each famous titer, in any case one, of MR766 infection were ca. one log10 higher than those gotten with the INMI-1 strain. Helpful sickness by two extra ZIKV straining, Thailand 201326 and Puerto Rico 2015 (PRVABC59), was found in basic HESC by a plaque encircling test (PFA) about 3 days post-pollution, with intracellular co-limitation of the protein known as the E protein and dsRNA containing calreticulin and vimentin, separately (Supplementary Fig. S2b,c). But beside each other examination revealed that the MR766 strain was the best similar to disease replication, simply the overpowering titer of Thailand 2013 was in a general sense lower than that of the MR766 strain (14). Removal Act Of 1830 Essays - Cherokee Nation, United States
Removal Act Of 1830 Wallace Two distinct cultures existed on this Earth with the migration of man many thousands of years ago from Eurasia to the American continent. The people from the migration to the Americas had absolutely no contact with the people in Europe and Asia after they migrated. In fact, the two civilizations evolved in totally different manners, and at different speeds. The people in the Americas, or Native Americans existed mainly as hunter-gatherers using tools of bone, wood, and useful animal parts. Native Americans formed their beliefs into many different religions, and resided happily perhaps in buckskin wigwams or wooden longhouses. At the height of their civilization though, whites in Europe had their own religions and sociological issues and beliefs. The two cultures had evolved at different speeds, and in different directions. Civilization in Europe started centuries before civilization in the Americas began, leaving Europe with a massive head-start in key cultural areas; hence, a major cultural clash occurred when Columbus sailed the Ocean blue in fourteen hundred and ninety-two. The whites from Europe simply could not tolerate the Native Americans, or Indians, overall lack of civilization, as the Europeans described themselves. For hundreds of years, the two groups fought over land, religion, and other major components their separate lifestyles. Eventually, whites started coming over in large masses in the mid-eighteenth century when the riches of America enticed them to abandon their mother country and its growing problems of the American Revolution. The Europeans, or Americans (as opposed to Native Americans), and the Indians were fast approaching a do or die situation. The Indians were desperately trying to salvage what land they could keep from the white settlers, after all past attempts had more or less failed. On the other hand, the Americans were pushing the Indians as hard as they could to the Western half of North America ( North America being divided by the Mississippi). They wanted to settle the Eastern portion of their land without the Indians revolting, getting in the way with their religions, and stirring up the general racism that the majority of the white settlers possessed in that time period. Basically, the whites did not want the Indians to live among them or near them, and the Indians did not want to simply give up their land and move hundreds of miles away. In the late 1700s and early portion of the 1800s, the Americans practiced an unwritten removal policy, of unfairly acquiring Native American land, destroying Indian tribes, and forcing Natives to recede into the depths of the land they have lived upon for thousands of years. The Indians put up quite a resistance for a few hundred years, but the time had finally arrived when the whites were seriously thinking about passing a bill through their Congress that would demand that all Native Americans move on the Western side of the Mississippi River. For the Americans, inf luential scholars, military heroes, and religious leaders each had his own opinion on whether they had the right to pass a rather finalizing law on such a major issue. Congress passed the Indian Removal Act in 1830, which in short gives Americans the legal right to force Indians out of their present homes east of the Mississippi, onto a reservation west of the Mississippi. The margin of the Removal Acts victory in Congress was very narrow. Influential Americans such as Lewis Cass, Andrew Jackson, Theodore Frelinghuysen, John Forsyth, John Ross, and others expressed their opinions to the public and Congress before the passage of the Removal Act. Lewis Cass, Andrew Jackson, and John Forsyth were three of the pro-removal leaders who helped influence Congress to ratify Removal Act. Each of these famous influences in American colonization expressed his strong opinion based on experience with Americas unwritten removal policy and his engagements with the Indians to date. Lewis Cass was the governor and Superintendent of Indian Affairs of the Michigan Territory in the 1820s. As the foremost authority in the United States on the languages and cultures of the northern tribes, Cass argued that Indian emigration west of the Mississippi was morally necessary for Native Americans to survive and civilize without extreme pressure from Americans living near

3 Key Strategies for SAT Passport to Advanced Math
3 Key Strategies for SAT Passport to Advanced Math SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Worried about exponents or coordinate geometry on the SAT? Never fear, this guide is here! I'll explain everything you need to know about SAT Math's trickiest subject area: Passport to Advanced Math. This topic tests all the algebra skills you must have firmly in place before you move into the study of more complex math, including systems of equations, polynomials, and exponents. Of course, the questions are presented in a uniqely SAT way, so I'll walk you through exactly what you can expect from this subsection of SAT Math. Basic Data: Passport to Advanced Math There are 16 Passport to Advanced Math questions on the test (out of 58 total math questions). These questions will not be explicitly identified- there's no label or anything marking these questions as members of this category- but you will receive a subscore (on a scale of 1 to 15) indicating how well you did on this material. You will see this type of question in both the calculator and no-calculator sections. There will also be both multiple choice questions and grid-in questions covering these topics. Passport to Advanced Math Concepts Below are the major skills tested by Passport to Advanced Math questions. Pay attention, now! Understanding Equation Structure The College Board wants to know that you understand how expressions, equations, and the like are structured. Also, the College Board will call upon you to demonstrate a real comprehension of why they're structured that way- and how they work as a result. For a question like this, you need to put both sides of the equation in the same form. So we'll start by FOILing the left side of the equation: $$abx^2+7ax+2bx+14=15x^2+cx+14$$ By comparing the two sides of the equation we can draw two conclusions: $$ab=15$$ $$7a+2b=c$$ Now we can use the following system of equations to determine the possible values for $a$ and $b$: $$a+b=8$$ $$ab=15$$ Therefore, $a=3$ and $b=5$, or $a=5$ and $b=3$. Finally, we plug both of those possible sets of values into the equation $7a+2b=c$ and solve for $c$, which gives us $c=7(3)+2(5)=31$ or $c=7(5)+2(3)=41$. Thus, (D) is the correct answer. Modeling Data You'll have to demonstrate the ability to build your own model of a given situation or context by writing an expression or equation to fit it. Here, the testmakers are asking us to recognize that $C$ is a function of $h$. We're looking at a variation on $y=mx+b$ where $C$ is on the y-axis and $h$ is on the x-axis. In order to find the correct equation for the line, we need to determine the values of constants $m$ (slope) and $b$ (y-intercept). We can look at the graph and immediately see that the y-intercept is 5, but that only allows us to rule out answers A and D. We need to find the slope as well. The equation for the slope of a line is $m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)$ Let's choose points $(1,8)$ and $(2,)$ from the graph and plug these values into the slope equation: $$m=(-8)/(2-1)=(3/1)$$ Given a slope of 3 and y-intercept of 5, we know the correct equation is $C=3h+5$, so the answer is (C). Mathematical modeling will, unfortunately, not get you on the front page of Vogue. Manipulating Equations This skill is very important to have mastered, as it will be useful in a large number of problems. It's all about where you can rearrange and rewrite expressions and equations. This question is pretty straightforward in asking you to rearrange the original formula. The math needed to do so, however, looks pretty nasty, by a glance over the answer choices. Let's take a look. Really, all we're doing is dividing both sides by the big nasty part, which is to say we're dividing by: To do that, we can multiply both sides by the reciprocal, which is: $${(1+r/1200)^N-1}/{(r/1200)(1+r/1200)^N}$$ So, we have: $$m{(1+r/1200)^N-1}/{(r/1200)(1+r/1200)^N}={(r/1200)(1+r/1200)^N}/{(1+r/1200)^N-1}{(1+r/1200)^N-1}/{(r/1200)(1+r/1200)^N}P$$ The two fractions on the right cancel each other out and this simplifies to: $$m{(1+r/1200)^N-1}/{(r/1200)(1+r/1200)^N}=P$$ The answer is (B). Math is one place where manipulation is not a malicious or fraudulent activity. Simplification This aspect is all about turning down the noise within an expression or equation by canceling out useless terms. In other words, the testmakers are likely to throw a whole lot of impenetrable garbage at you and wait for you to rearrange it so it makes human sense. This question is relatively straightforward: it just looks like a handful. It's all a matter of lining up like terms and combining them; careful of the signs. First, we distribute the negative to the terms in the second set of parentheses: $$x^2y-3y^2+5xy^2+x^2y-3xy^2+3y^2$$ Then we combine like terms: $$(x^2y+x^2y)+(-3y^2+3y^2)+(5xy^2-3xy^2)=2x^2y+2xy^2$$ Thus, (C) is the correct answer. Specific Topics in Math Here, we'll talk less about the broad scope of skills you'll need and more about specifics topics you have to be familiar with. Systems of Equations You need to be able to solve a system of equations in two variables where one is linear and one is quadratic (or otherwise nonlinear). Often, you will need to identify extraneous solutions- so don't forget to double-check the answers you find to make sure they work. There's a lot going on with this question, so let's start by simplifying the first equation. $$x^a^2/x^b^2=x^16$$ $$x^(a^2-b^2)=x^16$$ Since we know $x=x$, we can infer the following equation: $$a^2-b^2=16$$ $$(a+b)(aâËâb)=16$$ We know $a+b=2$, so we can plug that in and solve for $a-b$: $$2(a-b)=16$$ $$a-b=16/2=8$$ The equations on the SAT tend to be more complicated than this one, though. Polynomials You need to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and even occasionally divide polynomials. With polynomial division comes rational equations. You've got to be able to clear variables out of the denominator in rational expressions. Clearly the issue here is simplifying that rather intimidating denominator. Let's try multiplying the whole thing by ${(x+2)(x+3)}/{(x+2)(x+3)}$. $$1/{1/(x+2)+1/(x+3)}{(x+2)(x+3)}/{(x+2)(x+3)}$$ $${(x+2)(x+3)}/[{(x+2)(x+3)}/(x+2)+{(x+2)(x+3)}/(x+3)]$$ $${(x+2)(x+3)}/{(x+3)+(x+2)}$$ $$(x^2+5x+6)/(2x+5)$$ You'll recognize that as answer (B). The "polynomial" heading also includes your friendly neighborhood quadratic functions and equations. You need to be able to devise your own quadratic equation from the context of a word problem. Exponential Functions, Equations, Expressions, and Radicals You need an understanding of exponential growth and decay. You also need a solid comprehension of how roots and powers work. This question looks vaguely impossible, but the trick is just realizing that $8=2^3$. Once we know that we can rewrite the expression: $(2^3^x)/2^y=2^(3x-y)$ Per the question, we know that $3x-y=12$, so we can plug that value into the expression above to get $2^12$ or (A). Oh, the fun we can have with exponents! Algebraic and Graphical Representations of Functions Here are some terms you should understand, both as they apply to functions and as they apply to graphs. What do they mean in each case? x-intercepts y-intercepts domain range maximum minimum increasing decreasing end behavior asymptotes symmetry You'll also need to understand transformations. You should understand what happens, algebraically and graphically, when $f(x)$ changes to $f(x)+a$ or $f(x+a)$. What's the difference? Adding a outside of the parentheses moves the function up or down, graphically, and increases or decreases the overall values being spit out, algebraically. Adding a inside of the parentheses moves the function side to side, graphically, and shift the output the corresponds to the formal input, algebraically. Analyzing More Complex Equations in Context Sometimes you need to combine your "mathematical" knowledge with a plain old sense of logic. Don't be afraid to plug numbers in and watch what's going on in that alphabet soup when you try some actual values. Take everything step by step. Tips for Passport to Advanced Math The Passport to Advanced Math questions can be tricky, but the following tips can help you approach them with confidence! #1: Use multiple choice answers to your advantage. Always keep an eye out for what may be plugged in, tried out, or worked backwards from. One of the answers listed has to be the right one, so toy around with those four options until it all falls into place. Be sure to read our articles on plugging in answers and plugging in other useful numbers. Also, don't forget the process of elimination! If two answers are definitely bad and two might be okay, at least you're now guessing with a 50-50 chance of success- and that's not too bad! #2: Remember that squaring an expression isn't something you can really undo. There are so many problems where it's tempting- and often best- to square an expression, but remember there are caveats if you do. You may end up with extraneous solutions or some other such nonsense. Squaring also wipes out any negatives that are present. Taking a square root messes with the signs in a different way: you're going to have a positive case and a negative case, and that may not be appropriate. #3: Make sure you understand how the laws of exponents and how powers and radicals all relate. These laws can be pesky to memorize, but they're crucial to know. Exponents show up a lot on the test, and not knowing how to manipulate them is just a way of robbing yourself of all of those points. There he is! The dreaded points-robber! Closing Words There are a few fundamental skills that are essential to doing well on Passport to Advanced Math questions on the SAT. A lot of it comes down to knowing the different forms that an expression or equation can take- and understanding what they al mean. Basically, get comfortable with equivalences, and with mathematical operations used on terms more complex than plain old constants, because you'll be seeing plenty of them. Another thing that this type of question tests is your ability to recognize information- and I mean this in the pure sense of noticing that a certain term can be factored out, that it would be convenient to rewrite an equation with a different system of organizations, or that if I shoved most of the terms in an equation to the opposite side of the equals sign than I would be left with the difference of squares on one side. This awareness is, unfortunately, the hardest part to teach- and one of the most important to practice. Remember to stay calm- and breathe. Use your time wisely: if a problem looks totally overwhelming, skip it. Save it for the end, and however much time (if any) you have left over. If you sense that you're truly stuck, guessing is not the end of the world- it's better than leaving a question blank. There's no guessing penalty, so you won't lose points for a wrong answer. Before you throw in the towel, though, and time permitting, take a few minutes to fiddle around with the problem, trying out some different strategies. Try anything that comes to you! Work backwards from the answer choices, trying them out and plugging things in. What's Next? Now, if I gave the impression that any of these skills are impossible to learn, I apologize. Certain skills are harder to pick up, but we've got resources that should give you a leg up. We've got articles that cover just about anything you could ever want to know about SAT Math. Choosing a Car to Buy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Choosing a Car to Buy - Essay Example The most important factors that influenced my decision in what type of car to buy are its affordability, use and aesthetic features. I like the Toyota Corolla because even though the price is quite high for me, I think I can work for it given a good payment scheme wherein I can pay for the item within a year. As I mentioned earlier, the car will be primarily for my daily activities so I want a car that is handy enough so I will not have trouble in parking spaces and even when I am on the road. I think the Corolla is easy to maneuver because of its ideal size and I can use it to work, school or other activities such as picnics and family visits. The car is just perfect for me in terms of functionality because with the many places I could use the car for, I do not think I would need another car for other functions. Lastly, I also want the features of the car. The car looks simple from the outside which I like so much because it is not a show-off. The size of the car is really important for me as well because it affects the functions mentioned above. I do not like a smaller car simply because I do not prefer it. I want to have friends ride with me for outdoor activities so I want a car that enables me to do just that. But a larger car would be difficult to bring along to most of my activities. Although a bigger car would be nice for outdoor activities such as picnics and camping but it is not every day that I go to such occasions. The Toyota Corolla is really a perfect choice for me in terms of price, functions and size.

Maslows Hierarchy of Needs Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Maslows Hierarchy of Needs - Assignment Example Shankââ¬â¢s old boss failed to meet the safety need as they were told that ââ¬Å"you are just another numberâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ There was no love or belongingness and the question of self-esteem and self-actualization does not arise in these circumstances. The needs could not be met because the boss did not value his employees, did not recognize their efforts and contribution to the company. The self-esteem of the employees in the process was at its lowest. Low self-esteem can inhibit creativity, interpersonal relations, hinder performance and conflict resolution. Focusing on employee needs is essential to motivate and sustain the motivation of the employees. Maslow clarifies that satisfied needs are not motivators. When the higher order needs take over they serve as the motivating force. Thus, an organization can meet the missing needs in several ways. People need to feel connected with the top management and not feel alienated. Thus regular interactions between the management and the employees make them feel valued. A few words of recognition publicly reinforce the self-esteem of an individual and this can be a great motivator. The employees should feel that they can approach the management freely. Interest in the work or the store by the management is a great motivator for the employees because when they experience the excitement of the owners they too feel involved in their work. To err is human and employers should recognize this fact. Errors should be tolerated and as in the case of Southwest Airlines, errors should be considered a learning experience. A controlled approach can inhibit growth as it reduces initiatives. Hence an employee should be allowed to develop feelings of self-worth which provides intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is better than extrinsic motivation. When a person is aroused through a desire from within, the results are better.Ã

Describe in detail the set of religious observances known as the Five Essay
Describe in detail the set of religious observances known as the Five Pillars of Islam - Essay Example The five pillars of Islam form the foundation of worship and dedication to the Islamic faith. They are: Shahada, Salat, Sawm, Zakat and Hajj (Ellwood, & McGraw, 2009). Shahadah is a statement of belief that professes monotheism and acceptance of Muhammad as the messenger of God (Allah) (Ellwood, & McGraw, 2009). The creed is customarily recited in Arabic during each call to prayer (Azaan) and when one wishes to convert to Islam. It is also believed that one should also recite the creed when they are about to die. Salat describes the obligatory set of prayers that each Muslim should partake in daily. It consists of five prayers that should be recited each day as defined by the Sunna (Hedayetullah, 2006). The first prayer is the Fajr that is performed at dawn just before the sunrise. The second prayer is the Dhuhr and is performed at noon after the sun has passed its apex. The third prayer is the à ¿Aá ¹ £r that is performed in the afternoon before the sun sets. The forth prayer is the Maghrib which is performed in the evening after the sun sets. The final prayer is the Isha which is performed at night. Each of these prayers comprises of a set amount of rakaà ¿Ã t (prescribed words and movements). All of the prayers are performed while facing the Islamic holy city of Mecca. Before each prayer, Muslims must partake in Wudu (Cleansing), achieved by washing themselves. The third pillar of Islam is fasting (Sawm). According to the Quran, there are three types of fasting that Muslims should partake in. During the month of Ramadan, all Muslims have to partake in ritual fasting. This type of fasting is mandatory and followers of Islam have to refrain from eating, drinking and other worldly pleasures from dawn to dusk during the whole period (Khan, 2006). They are also expected to be particularly attentive of other sins. The other two types of fasting are as compensation to penance and abstinent fasting. Sawm allows believers to

Not Gershwin or Porter, Lennon or Presley. It is, indeed, Louis Armstrong who blasted the music of the world out of a tired tradition of classic orchestra and mundane Tin Pan Alley pop into the exciting era of hot jazz and swing. Not single-handedly, admittedly; but Armstrong set standards of originality and spontaneity that are yet to be surpassed. Equal parts singer, soloist, and personality, Louis' recordings cover an astounding range of styles and trends. And at every single stage of his career, he produced work of such staggering quality that it was never possible to dismiss this musical icon. Born in 1900, his life paralleled many of the twists and turns of the middle century. In the twenties, he stunned his jazz peers with an instrumental originality they had never imagined. The thirties saw him rise to the top of the pop music echelon, as his peerless personality swept up admiring listeners of all colors. The forties brought both a sinking of fortunes, with a ban on recording during the war, and a bold resurgence at the end of the decade. By the fifties, Louis' voice mellowed into an evocative instrument of its own, capable of elevating a novelty like "Mack the Knife" or a ballad like "That Old Feeling" into timeless mementos. Even in his final years, though deprived of the facility to make his famous cornet produce the kind of stirring sound that first brought him recognition, Louis Armstrong had the clout to create his most famous hits.

Son of the Morning Star
Son of the Morning Star Analysis Evan S. Connell has a unique writing style. While most stories are told from beginning to end, Son of the Morning Star: Custer and The Little Bighorn (North Point Press, 1984) begins with the aftermath of The Battle of the Little Bighorn. It is then followed by numerous events which led up to this battle. Connell chose this non-linear writing style in order to distribute the details he finds most fascinating and interesting to share with his audience. Using the conclusion of the battle as the introduction of the narrative creates a suspenseful tone.In the beginning of the story, the setting is the battle field which The Battle of the Little Bighorn had taken place a few days earlier. Lieutenant James Bradley has led his troops to the land where they discover the corpses of which they believe are General George Armstrong Custerââ¬â¢s troops. Custer himself was nowhere in sight. Even after a reward was offered upon his retrieval he could not be found . The deserted battle field raised questions and the men began to imagine what had happened days prior to their arrival. The author writes, ââ¬Å"While discussing the dayââ¬â¢s events around a campfire most infantrymen predicted more unpleasant newsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 3) The troops discovered a woman who was present during the battle and described to them what she had witnessed. The womanââ¬â¢s recollection of her experience opens up the story to a chronicle of the events which happened during the battle. The reader is given details regarding to Custerââ¬â¢s entrance and also each opponentââ¬â¢s fighting style: ââ¬Å"Instead, Renoââ¬â¢s men dismounted and formed a skirmish line. Then they began to retreat. They ran very fast, she said, dropping guns and cartridges. She was disgusted by the conduct of these whites, saying they must have been seized with panic worse than that which seized her own people. â⬠(pg. 7) As the plot approaches its conclusion, the reader is taken back to the aftermath of the battle and receives a tale told by a Cheyenne woman named Kate Bighead. She delivered a short story about the corpses she saw laying on the battlefield, one in particular she identified as General Custer: She said two Southern Cheyenne women were at the Little Bighorn and when the fighting ended they went to the battlefield. They saw Custer. They knew him wellâ⬠¦they recognized him even though his hair was short and face was dirty. (pg. 422) Although the plot of this story does not have a chronological structure, it develops a more personal connection because the characters in the story are directly speaking to the audience as they give their personal accounts on the battle. For example, it had already been said that Reno was dead; however, an outburst made by Reno himself is mentioned shortly after. ââ¬Å"The major was swigging at a flask when DeRudio splashed by. What are you trying to do? ââ¬â¢ Reno asked. ââ¬ËDrown me before I am k illed? ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (pg. 50) Evan S. Connellââ¬â¢s work, Son of the Morning Star is an extraordinary and captivating narrative. He has an acquiring mind and was not afraid to step away from the traditional form of writing. Behind the chaos there is meaning. The writing style presented in this story is untraditional which could possibly lose the attention of the reader; however, this was a valid decision. ? Based on its cover the reader might think that the entire story is about General Custer and his troops.Despite expectations, the audience actually catches a glimpse of both the lives of Custer as well as his opponents. The author gives the reader a little information on the background of Crazy Horse, formerly known as Curly. ââ¬Å"Curly did not reveal this manifestation to anybody until he was sixteen and ready to become a warriorâ⬠¦Except for moccasins and breechcloth he rode naked. â⬠(pg. 67) The author also gives the reader the opportunity to read a few journal entries about Crazy Horse. These entries come from the diary of Jesse Lee, ââ¬Å"Saturday, Sept. th, 1877. Everything is quiet and I think will remain so. Crazy Horseââ¬â¢s body was brought to this agency and put on a little platform, Indian fashion, on the hill overlooking the post, not half a mile away. â⬠(pg. 75) He also includes a background on Chief Gall as well, providing facts about his birthplace and family. For example, he writes, ââ¬Å"He was not a hereditary chief. The family seems to have been undistinguished, and because his father died at an early age the boy was regarded more with sympathy than respect. So it appears that not through any legacy did he become a chieftainâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 376) Throughout the story, the audience develops an idea of the motives of the Native Americans during the battle. The reader becomes aware of what Sitting Bull was thinking: If Sitting Bull did indeed call off the attack it was not because of any affection for whites, who , he hated with abiding and impenetrable rancor, but because he understood how vindictive they could be. If all the soldiers were slaughtered the whites would insist upon another battleâ⬠¦ (pg. 6) The audience was not only given an idea of what they were thinking before the battle. The author also makes a point to include a song that the Indians wrote after they had defeated General Custer and his men, ââ¬Å"At that time the Indians did not realized they had fought Custerâ⬠¦when they found out, they sang about him. David Humphreys Miller transcribed one such kill-songâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 54) With the erudition given in the story, the reader concludes that the Native American leaders were fully developed human beings. Connell includes information regarding Chief Crazy Horseââ¬â¢s smart battle technique. For example, there are quotations given from a journalist: At critical moments Crazy Horse would dismount before shooting: ââ¬Å"He is the only Indian I ever knew who did t hat oftenâ⬠¦he didnââ¬â¢t like to start a battle unless he had it all planned out in his head and knew he was going to win. (pg. 63) Chief Gall was compared to other great leaders and his leadership skills are described by his people including Lieutenant Godfrey, ââ¬Å"He perceived Gall as a man of tremendous character natural ability, and great common sense, a chief whose massive physiognomy reminded him of Daniel Webster. (pg. 375) The comments made about these two leaders in particular demonstrate their equality of humanity compared to Custerââ¬â¢s men. Not only does he give details about the lives of the Native Americans but Connell also gives insight on the lives of those who fought with General Custer. The reader is given an idea of the reputation and trial of Benteen. For example, ââ¬Å"In this, that Major Frederick W. Benteen, Ninth Calvary when in command of the Post of Fort Du Chesne, Utah, was found drunkâ⬠¦Specifications 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th were id entical, only the dates changed. (pg. 34) The reader also gathers information about Major Marcus Reno regarding his leadership and his behavior thus similar to that of Benteenââ¬â¢s. ââ¬Å"Reno got demerits easily, almost deliberatelyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 40) He also writes, ââ¬Å"At least it failed to mollify the exasperated colonel because Reno found himself saddled with another chargeâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 45) Although a great deal of this piece is devoted to the lives and motives of the Native Americans, the author also takes time to write about Custerââ¬â¢s men as well.Including battle experience as well as family history, Connell captures the importance of The Battle of the Little Bighorn. Throughout the non-linear story, the reader is taken back and forth between stories about Custerââ¬â¢s challengers and his troops. The authorââ¬â¢s objectivity is apparent because the reader is given the opportunity to capture the battle from both perspectives. ? Before The Battle o f the Little Bighorn, General Custer had celebrated many victories; however, this battle ended in tragedy.Unaware of what caused the downfall at Little Bighorn, many have speculated possible causes of Custerââ¬â¢s defeat. These possibilities include Custerââ¬â¢s sanity, his confidence and other stereotypes. In the story, Connellââ¬â¢s collection of stories told by Sioux woman and other survivors give the reader ideas of what might have been the cause of this disastrous downfall. When looking back on the battle a discussion between an Indian and General H. L. Scott reveals a possible cause of this defeat. For example, Connell writes: During subsequent conversations Feather Earring emphasized that if Custer had approached diplomatically the Indians would have gone back to the reservationsâ⬠¦General Scott observed that such a method of dealing with the hostiles had not occurred to anybody. (pg. 414) Shortly after this discussion more information about Custerââ¬â¢s skewed communication with the Indians is unveiled. If this miscommunication had never occurred the battle would have been avoided altogether.A Sioux chief gives his recollection on the events occurring prior to the battle: He asked Custer to promise that he would not fight the Sioux. Custer promisedâ⬠¦After we got through talking, he soon left the agency, and we soon heard that he was fighting the Indians and that he and all his men were killed. If Custer had given us time we would have gone out ahead of him, but he did not give us time. If we had gone out ahead of Custer he would not have lost himself not would his men have been killed. (pg. 415) The attack had been approved by his officers, however, there had been some objections. Some of his troops did not believe the plan was logical but Custerââ¬â¢s confidence does appear to take over his mentality. He ignores a suggestion made by Gibbon, ââ¬Å"Custer, instead of proceeding at once into the valley of the Little Big Horn, even should the trail lead there, should continue on up the Rosebud, get closer to the mountainsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 255-256) Losing touch with reality Custer continues to explain his plan to attack, ââ¬Å"the combined forces would count coup on Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Gallâ⬠¦and all the restâ⬠(pg. 56) Custerââ¬â¢s plan includes a victory rather than an alternative in case of any misfortune, he left no room for the unexpected. Although Custerââ¬â¢s plan seemed a little unrealistic his stubbornness was not the only thing to lead to the downfall at Little Bighorn. Many troops give their comments regarding Major Renoââ¬â¢s choice of leadership, ââ¬Å"several military analysts believe Reno should have stayed there instead of doing what he did. They point out that his battalion so near the village would have engaged a great many warriors, thus allowing Custerââ¬â¢s plan to unfold. â⬠(pg. ) It is also mentioned that Reno had an altercation with one of the Indian s which he encountered, ââ¬Å"Reno misunderstood a figure of speech, taking I as an insult, and threatened to shoot High Bear-who responded by drawing a knife. Another scout, invoking Custerââ¬â¢s name, jumped between them and managed to prevent a bloody settlement. â⬠(pg. 10) Not only was Renoââ¬â¢s lack of intuition a cause of defeat but it is also possible that his belligerent temperament lead to Custerââ¬â¢s labefaction. After analyzing the attitudes and actions of Custer and his troops, the reader can infer many causes that led to this disastrous defeat.Based on the strategic analystsââ¬â¢ comments, Reno could have used better instincts when leading his men into battle. It is possible that if the major would have had stronger intuition Custerââ¬â¢s men would not have suffered as much as they did. The reader can conclude that there was a sense of overconfidence made not only by Major Reno but Custer as well; however, if Custer had kept his promise to Sioux the entire battle could have been avoided. Custer and his five companies certainly underestimated their Native American opponents.

Fatigue, Excessive Vomiting, Headaches, Depression,...
Fatigue, excessive vomiting, headaches, depression, irritability, infertility, and death; these are all symptoms and repercussions associated with HIV/AIDS. For such a long time, HIV/AIDS has been called a ââ¬Å"gayâ⬠disease. Even though the gay community was and is one the most affected populations, is stating HIV/AIDS is a ââ¬Å"gayâ⬠disease honestly rational or is it simply a way for individuals who do not agree with same-sex lifestyles to villainize and blame the very people they despise? The first article titled ââ¬Å"Getting it Straight: HIV as a Gay Disease Is a Myth That Refuses to Dieâ⬠was written by an author by the name of David Salyer, David Salyer is a writer who has published this article in a collection of articles that discuss HIV/AIDSâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦One of the ways Salyer used ethos in a very effective way to argue his claim was when he said, ââ¬Å"They are not all gay. African-American and Hispanic women together represent less t han one-fourth of all U.S. women, but account for more than three-fourths (76%) of AIDS cases among women in this country (CDC Update, 6/98),â⬠(Para. 3). This use of the CDC, the Center for Disease Control, as a source is very strong and credible because it is the sole purpose of the CDC to disclose information regarding diseases and viruses in the United States. He was also attempting to make the point that not all HIV cases are composed entirely of gay men. The article continues to use other, equally as strong sources, such as: the New York Times, UNAIDS, and Dr. Sharon Hillier of the University of Pittsburgh. The latter article titled ââ¬Å"AIDS Is A Gay Diseaseâ⬠uses ethos very poorly in comparison to its opposition. The only really viable time Benkof uses ethos effectively is when he uses information cited as belonging to Matt Foreman who is the Executive Director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. The mere mention of Matt Foreman came when Benkof said, When gay leader Matt Foreman called AIDS a gay disease in 2008, narrow-minded groups seized the opportunity to renew their tired argument that homosexuality is a ââ¬Å"dangerous lifestyleâ⬠(an odd analysis given the rarity of HIV transmission through lesbian sex).
